I had the hardest time figuring out this machine even though I've had Krups machines in the past. I decided to return it and not get a replacement. I just could not get it to work. After two calls to the Krups Customer Service it was determined that I had a faulty machine. Wow, that was a big mistake and cost me close to $55 over the original purchase price since I had to pay shipping and a shelf fee.I guess the cost of taking it down from the shelf in the warehouse. I felt ripped off and will never order this kind of product from Amazon and Today's Concept again.
I am not a wimpy person, someone tightened down the lever so much you can barely turn it.I am returning it right away and am hoping for a full refund. However, the pump is so loud and so poorly insulated that the entire machine makes this huge humming/rocking/clicking noise and shakes when you make a cup of espresso. This is a very stylish looking machine with some neat features like a flexible steam wand, a spot in the water basket lid to hold extra filters and a handy slide out tray to help you dump overflows and spills. Beware to the buyer, the seller, Small Appliance.com has listed on their return policy (included on the invoice) that "any item or part that has been opened, used or washed cannot be returned," so I am a BIT concerned they won't take it back. My demitasse cup actually slid off the tray from all the shaking while I was waiting for the shot to run. The other major problem is the lever/switch in the front of the machine is so hard to use I had to use TWO hands to turn it left or right. I cannot figure out, however, how they expect a person to be satisfied with their purchase if they can't try it out first so. we will see how it goes.
The machine was user-friendly but has two major drawbacks: 1. We called the company about this and were told to only insert the tip into the milk. There is no auto stop, so you need to turn it off when you have the quanity of coffee you want. Secondly, and this is the worst, there is no froth, only bubbles. However, this brought the same measley bubbles that we got when we put the wand deeper into the milk. This will be going back.
This product has two fundamental problems. If you do get any coffee out of it it is burned and foul tasting. One is a strong plastic-ey aroma from the water reservoir that doesn't go away with time. The other more fundamental problem is that it is extremely sensitive to the grind - a little bit too fine and it gets totally constipated and won't funtion. I consider it a waste of money and am looking for a replacement. On the plus side, if the grind is just right it will produce good espresso.
It was a pleasure to dump the Krups in the garbage. No espresso coffee in the morning for a while.Today, finally I bought a Breville Modena espresso machine for not much more than what I had paid for the Krups.
After 2-3 months the gasket that seals the connection of the coffee filter to the machine started leaking. I bought this machine about a year ago.
The problem was that the new gasket leaked more than the old. A design flaw of the machine is a hard stop that prevents tightening the basket just a bit more to stop the leaking around the basket when the gasket weakens.I spent some time on the Web looking for a replacement gasket for this model.
I went to the Krups Web site and bought two replacement gaskets. The gasket is much tighter and seals well before the hard stop is reached.
It is amazing how a $6 part can completely mess up a whole espresso machine.
